When Maria Payan’s family lived next door to a large chicken operation, her whole family suffered. When her young son came out of the bath one day with palm-sized wounds all over his body, she was fed up. Along with her Iranian husband, Maria now works to organize communities throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and New York. She is committed to keeping independent farmers viable, while striving to preserve our natural resources and rural heritage for future generations.
